4 Common Reasons Why Americans Move to a New Home

movingRoughly 43 million Americans move every year. That’s a lot of relocation. Americans are moving a lot, and they are all doing it for their own reasons. Although moving can be incredibly stressful, the reason behind it is obviously enough for the movers to go through with the headache. Here are some of the most common reasons that people are moving in America today.

They want an upgrade

Typically when people buy their first home, they buy what they can afford, even if it’s a dump. The excitement of purchasing a home is more important than the amenities. However, after a certain amount of time, the homeowners are probably going to want an upgrade. Sometimes homeowners simply want a bigger home, maybe with more bedrooms, bigger bathrooms or more square-footage. Others just don’t want to renovate their current home and would rather move.

They want to live in a better neighborhood

There are many aspects that go into the quality of a neighborhood. Sometimes economic factors change, or even crime rates. Another big thing that goes into neighborhood quality is the school district. When homeowners have kids, or even when they don’t, school district is important. Living in a good school district can actually increase the value of a home. Lastly, the homeowner’s neighborhood may not be close enough to other family or friends.

They have changed jobs

Sometimes, the opportunity of a lifetime comes up, and that means you have to relocate. It is actually very common to relocate for a new job. Out of state job offers make it pretty impossible not to move. Job relocation isn’t the only thing job-related that incites a move. Sometimes, the current commute to work is just too great, so the employee wants to move close to their current office.

They’ve had a relationship change

A change in relationship status can incite a move as well. Maybe a couple decides to move in together, or they’ve just gotten married and want to live in a house instead of an apartment. Divorce is also a relationship change that typically results in at least one member of the couple moving to a new location.
