With one per drawer, wrap the straps around the filing cabinet to keep the drawers in place, and your files from disarray. Moving Lateral File Cabinets

A lateral filing cabinet is that which is wider than it is tall. Lateral file cabinets require a little more finesse and planning to move than their upright counterparts. A lateral file cabinet that is moved full may bend or break due to the weight inside, but once emptied, it can be stood on one end and moved easily — with a dolly and straps.

Moving Smaller File Cabinets

Oh, you might be thinking: A small filing cabinet is small; it’ll be a piece of cake to move. This may be true, but it may not be. What’s in said smaller filing cabinet must be considered first. The cabinet’s contents can greatly increase its weight and bulkiness. Small filing cabinets should be moved individually (NOT stacked on top of one another) and their drawers secured with straps just like larger filing cabinets.
